Audio-Visual Collection
Holdings: The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library's Audio-Visual Collection contains more than 400,000 photographs. Various holdings visually document Illinois politics, labor relations, military matters, businesses, agriculture, and family life over time. Collections highlight gubernatorial administrations from Len Small through Jim Edgar, as well as the political careers of United States Senators Scott W. Lucas, Adlai Stevenson III, and Secretary of State Paul Powell. Indicative of labor themes are images in such collections as the Barber-Greene Company, On the Job Illinois, the Pure Oil Company, the Hearst Newspaper Strike, the Arthur Dubin Pullman Collection, and substantial numbers of coal mining-related images. Military and family holdings include the collections of John A. Logan, Herrick-Reasoner, the Jannotta Family, and Josephine Oblinger.
Over 5,000 broadsides are also housed in this section, including an impressive collection of World War I and World War II posters.
Approximately 7,000 audio tapes document the daily activities of the administrations of Governors Ogilvie, Thompson, and Edgar, as well as the Illinois Constitutional Convention of 1969-1970. The Library has over 1,000 World War II oral history interviews. Oral history interviews conducted by the Illinois Department on Aging, as well as interviews with coal miners, are part of the Library's substantial holdings.
Films from gubernatorial collections dating from the William Stratton administration depict things such as road construction and the Illinois State Fair. Viewing and listening rooms are available for film and tape research.
